Midterm Elections Something to Prove

If you care about our nation, if you care about our future, now is the time to act. Tomorrow, November 7, 2006, the mid-term elections are taking place across the nation. Current national polls predict, and I am keeping my fingers crossed, that the democrats will take charge of both the senate and congress.
If Democrats succeed, while I am not convinced yet, I am hoping, no check that, I am praying that they will give George Bush a swift kick in the ass and demand changes in Iraq. Now please understand that I am not for pulling out 100%, this is something that cannot be done. We must continue to show presence in Iraq, try and squander some type of victory. I firmly believe that our troops are not fighting for anything, they are just dying and being maimed.
While I totally agree that Saddam Hussein needed to be removed from power, I DO NOT agree with our policies that got us involved with this conflict in any such way or matter. President Bush has been standing firm on his “stay the course” objective. Some of the field commanders have been telling him since 2004 that his policies in Iraq were not working. He would not budge from his stance. A few weeks ago his administration came forward and stated that they “really never meant” that statement, that they were going back to the table for open discussions on the policies on Iraq.
If the democrats are able to win power in the senate and congress, they will put heavy pressure on the Bush administration to make changes in Iraq. All though this article is totally from my personal thoughts and that I am really praying that if the democrats gain control, that they will make the right decisions and not just pull our troops out.
Over the past 10 months or so, President Bush’s popularity has declined heavily due to the Iraqi conflict. While I detest Bush’s actions in Iraq, I can only wish that the tomorrow’s elections will call for a change in the right direction. I hope that the newly elected house and senate will not make it a personal vendetta to take out its frustrations on the current administration, if this happens the troops in Iraq will be the ones to suffer.
