Getting Robbed by Airport Kiosks & News Stands
As I ready for my first real vacation for the first time in 15 or so years, I have been thinking about something that is now really starting to annoy me. Since the implementation of tighter security measures across our nation's airports, airport snack stands have been making a much higher profit than in years past. Now can I prove this in anyway; no I have not done one single second of research, but it seems to me as a no brainier.
See all this starting coming to my mind when my wife and I stated planning our upcoming vacation to Hawaii and our two boys are going with us. Well one clear thought is what to do with two young boys on a trip. I started to make a list: Electronic games, Books, small toys, snacks, and bottle water or juice boxes. Wait, stop, you cannot bring bottle water or juice boxes into the secure area of an airport in the US; I do not know about foreign countries and their airport policies.
Now I fully understand and agree, 100%, on our nation's airport policies. I am not trying to make some sort of asinine statement that since I am going on vacation that all the rules need to change. I do however think that the airports or the government needs to do something about the prices of items inside secure areas in the airport, why do you ask?
Well when you go somewhere with your kids, you usually pack something to drink whether it may be water or juice, even a soda for that matter. These items are usually purchased from your neighborhood super market. We all swipe our super savor cards and get a 24 pack of Aquafina or some other brand for $4.00. Well guess what! That is the price for 1 bottle of water in airport kiosks. So instead of being able to throw a few bottles in my backpack, I now have to spend $20 for the same amount of bottles I could have put in my bag for $1.00.
I firmly believe that the governing bodies of our nation's airports need to really look into this or some government agency, because these airport stores have a monopoly and there is really nothing that you or I can do about it. I am not saying that the rules of bringing liquids into the secure areas of airports or on planes needs to change, I am just trying to make the point that if we cannot do this any longer then the prices in the secure areas needs to be regulated
Please do let me know if I am out of bounds here, whacked, or just an idiot when items such as these come to mind.
Anyway I am off to Hawaii for two weeks and you're not! I'll be thinking about you!

Have a great time in Hawaii. Make sure you check out the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet, Hanuama (sp?) Bay and any of the L&L Bar-B-Que stops. And don't miss Ala Moana Beach - just down from Waikiki and much less crowded.

Hey thanks Greenie for the places to check while I was there, but I did not get to Oahu, I spent the entire time on the Big Island. I grew up there and wanted to take my kids back for the first time in their lives and show them where I went to school and what I used to do.
We had a blast but still ended up paying $3.00 for a bottle of water at the airport on the mainland. Funny thing is that you could actually get a deal on water at Kona Intl, it was a $1.50 there, so I bought two, lol
