It amazes me that our President is standing with such a firm ground on his Iraq policies. October has been one of the deadliest months for our troops in Iraq. The latest tally was 103 killed on this last day of the month.
Please share with me, as I cannot understand this now, what exactly are they fighting for? Our freedom, the freedom of the Iraqi people! I don’t think so.
Please understand one thing, I have and always will support our troops. I was enlisted in the Army from February 1987 to September 1995. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the military and would not change it for anything.
To me it is not about being Republican or Democrat, it is about the person and their values. I could not stand Bill Clinton and what he stood for. His policies towards the military really brought the morale down. Pay cuts and base closures were tops on his agenda. Sure he messed up and did not take care of a lot of items during his tenor as our President
President Bush had, until recently, stayed with the saying “Stay the Course”, we must not leave before the job is done. What Job! What exactly are we doing in Iraq today, what are we accomplishing besides bringing our troops home in body bags. The body count continues to rise, close to 3000 dead and almost 10 times that wounded. Solders are coming home maimed, arms and legs missing, emotions torn.
Early next week, November 7, 2006, is our mid-term elections for many of the senate and congressional seats and I hope and pray that we, as Americans, will make changes so the pressure can be put on our President to make a change, whether he likes it or not Changes to our policy in Iraq have to change. Will we be able to stop the insurgents from killing our men and women, hell no, we all know this. Bush’s approval rating is at an all time low and will continue to slid, but he does not really give a sh*t. He has nothing to loose what so ever because (and thank god for this) he cannot get reelected.
Many of the soldiers are over in Iraq are starting, themselves, to question why they are there. “President George W. Bush has repeatedly argued that premature withdrawal from Iraq would dishonor the US troops who have died in Iraq. But a rare opinion poll of military personnel in Iraq released yesterday suggested that only a quarter of US troops agreed with their commander-in-chief.” – source:
Financial Times
Sure we cannot pull out of Iraq just as fast as we invaded it, but we surely could come up with some sort of withdraw schedule. A timeline needs to be set in place and our upcoming midterm elections are our chance to take a stance to force a change. Let’s do it dammit!
